#SayYES

Stories from quarantine: “In this world where success is defined in such a harsh light, we need to realize that success comes in small amounts of achievements as well.”

In conversation with ADHI SAVLA (with a cup of coffee), he saysI was running at the speed of 120 when the lockdown forced me to slam breaks to a standstill.

"I am the type of person who sets out goals at the start of the year and make ways to achieve them. I genuinely have a little checklist and I keep crossing things accomplished. Like for example, one of them was to travel to a snow covered place. It was the first week of February when I first saw the beautiful Spiti Valley covered in Snow. Fast Forward two weeks, I was at the airport catching my flight.

When the lockdown was implemented, I had to reassess my resolutions and dreams for the year. I was constantly overthinking and hyperventilating, anxiety a constant companion.  After the first few days of misery, I decided instead of wasting away my days like this, I dived into doing things I never was able to find the time for. We are given this time to utilize it to do whatever we want! So we should really find the motivation to do things we never really had the time for, or things we never thought we'll do. So I started to say YES to things I've never done before. And believe me, it has really changed me and a lot of my outlook on things. I would suggest everyone reading this to start this as well. We still have time.

I've always loved COFFEE. It’s a unique collision of intricate science and and artistic beauty. And even though I wanted to learn more about it, I never had the time to pick up on that interest. So during this lockdown I said YES to coffee. I was able connect with some amazing personalities in the coffee industry through their online workshops, and social media; learn more and more relentlessly. I've learned more in these couple of months than I did in past 2 years. I am constantly experimenting brewing styles, learning by trial and error. A friend was celebrating the April Poetry month, which is writing a poem every day for a month. She approached me to do a write-up for this. Now under different circumstances, I wouldn't have had the courage to do so; but with the Yes mentality, I agreed. A month later, I got an opportunity to publish this in a book. It was always a dream for me to write something for a book and because I said, I can proudly call myself as a published author now. I'm achieving goals I never thought to pen down.

"Always behind the coffee"

I thought I was happy setting out a goal and achieving it. But I've learned that it is not true anymore. The true happiness is the satisfaction that comes from learning new skills even without planning it.. It's the little things, like experimenting with coffee, like writing an essay, like giving a helping hand to mum and spending some quality time with her. It's about growth, helping others and growing as a community. Success is what you make of it. If you're like me and are not about to be successful in what wanted, remember that you are probably succeeding in something you didn't even realize you could. In this world where success is defined in such a harsh light, we need to realize that success comes in small amounts of achievements as well.

My two cents here are, say 'Yes' more. Even if you think you're not up for that task. Keep saying yes and keep doing something. Because, you never know, one single ‘Yes’ can change your life. "
